OpenAI makes ChatGPT sound like Santa Claus for the holidays.
The startup announced on Thursday that ChatGPT users will be able to access the novel “Santa Mode” voice in December. This feature allows users to chat using ChatGPT’s existing real-time voice feature, an advanced voice mode but with a Christmas twist. The voice sounds, well, “happy and bright,” as OpenAI put it. Think loudly, in a merry way – more or less like every Santa Claus you’ve ever heard.
OpenAI is rolling out this feature just in time for the 2024 holiday season, when many families with youthful children will be at home all day and will likely apply Santa Mode frequently. On Thursday, as part of the 12-day OpenAI event, OpenAI also added visual support to ChatGPT, allowing the AI system to understand live video from your camera. This means that in Santa mode you will also be able to “see” your family and talk to them.
Santa Mode will appear as a snowflake icon in ChatGPT on the right side of the tooltip and should be rolled out to all users of mobile devices, websites, and the ChatGPT desktop app for macOS and Windows. The company says conversations with Santa Claus will not be saved in your chat history or affect your memory.
