Zoë Schiffer: Yes, I think everyone can agree that Nvidia is undoubtedly one of the companies that has gone all in on the AI acceleration moment. For better or worse, about 90 percent of Nvidia’s sales, once dominated by chips for personal gaming computers, now come from its data center business, and it seems that every time one of these partnerships between OpenAI and another company, Nvidia is out there somewhere, it just seems to be tied down to everyone else in the industry at that point.
Max Zeff: Yes, it has done a great job of blending in with every AI company out there, but that’s a major problem too. There’s been a lot of talk about circular deals where Nvidia really depends on a lot of the startups it also funds. It’s a client, it’s an investor. Nvidia is very involved in this. So I guess it’s not that surprising that Jensen constantly defends the AI bubble.
Zoë Schiffer: Yes. It’s also worth saying that one of the concerns that people fearing the AI bubble will be talking about is the fact that GPUs make up the majority of the cost of building a data center and need to be replaced, every three years Nvidia releases fresh chips that are cutting edge and companies have to buy them to compete. I’m afraid the renewal cycle isn’t fully factored into the pricing, but as long as people continue to buy tokens, Jensen says, “No, no, we’re isolated at this point.”
Max Zeff: Normal. However, we will see if this is actually true.
Zoë Schiffer: One more story before we go on break, and to survive this one we both need to be exceptionally professional. I’m not sure, Max, as always, but just a little more. You’ll see what I mean. WIRED contributor Mattha Busby shared how two newborn Mormon women created an app that helps other men break porn addiction and bad habits. I will be real. I had never heard this term before reading this story and I was shocked. OK, if you’re not familiar with gooning, it’s just another word for edging. It’s long hours of masturbation without release. This app called Relay was created by 27-year-old Chandler Rogers with the mission of providing his Gen Z peers with a way to stop doing this and generally escape the clutches of porn. I have some other ideas. I feel like going outside and talking to people, but I don’t want to be rude because I feel like that can be really strenuous for people.
