Warner Music Group partners with Suno to offer AI-powered likenesses of its artists

Warner Music Group has entered into a licensing agreement with AI music creation Suno platform. As agreedWMG will allow users to create AI-generated music on Suno using the voices, names, likenesses, images and compositions of artists who opt-in to the program.

WMG, which owns record labels that have signed musicians including Ed Sheeran, Twenty One Pilots, Dua Lipa and Charli XCX, says participating artists will have “full control” over how their likenesses and music are used, although it does not say how.

“These will be new opportunities for artists who choose to create them, opening up new revenue streams for them and allowing them to interact with them in new ways,” Suno says, adding that users will be able to “build around” an artist’s sounds “and get paid.”

With the licensing agreement, Suno plans to utilize licensed WMG music to create next-generation models that it says will outperform the flagship v5 model. From next year, it will also start requiring users to have a paid account to download songs, with each tier providing a set number of downloads each month.
