Vision of connected care for patients and clinicians of endoscopy

Share

Usually, few systems in the endoscopy department are related. For example, image and video data generated during the procedure may be stored in one system, while other details about the patient are in another. And with biopsies regularly taken during the procedure, there are often more improved connections between decision makers-an example with pathology.

According to Globocan Data, 1.93 million cases of colorectal cancer were diagnosed worldwide in 2020, while 934,731 deaths occurred in this disease.

Interoperable digital solutions can support an earlier diagnosis and the mortality rate may be reduced. Not only that, but with simplification of documentation and processes, doctors can focus on patients – who in turn can experience smoother procedures, less delays and better care.

Olympus has implemented an interoperability solution at the Sana Klinken AG hospital in Berlin, which performs over 13,000 endoscopy procedures annually. According to San’s team, the interoperability solution can facilitate health care employees spend less time by hand checking the status of equipment, which leaves more time to care for the patient.

Optimization of endoscopy procedures

The solution integrates various systems, presenting data in real time on the central navigation desktop. Staff can immediately display the status and location of the equipment, reducing manual controls and improve processes along the flow of endoscopy.

This approach is aimed at supporting better performance, supports the increased exploit of the endoscope and aims to enhance the return on investment by minimizing downtime. The navigation desktop also enables proactive error management, helping employees quickly solve problems in the process (such as Endoscope processing machine error) and avoid delays in the procedure.

“The navigation desktop has transformed our flow, increasing consciousness and performance,” says Professor Siegbert Faiss, medical director at the hospital. “By reducing tedious tasks, Olympus supporting software systems allow staff to focus on patient care.”

Future endoscopy ecosystems

The vision of Olympus is to provide interoperable solutions that fill the gaps created by muted processes. The key features of such an ecosystem are the analysis of AI -based changes, automatic documentation, procedural quality control and assets management. These functions are aimed at limiting the introduction of data and excess administrative burden by supporting improved writing reports and other processes, in order that clinicians can focus more on patients’ care.

Healthcare employees, including the main nurses and clinical teams in the future, would benefit not only of improved processes, but also with straightforward available data and analyzes. In the case of CTO and IT departments, the Vision of Olympus interoperability would be operated by scalable solutions based on technology that simplify data integration and reporting. This would be in line with digital transformation initiatives to meet the possibilities of compliance and analytics.

Although the benefits of the solutions implemented in the clinken San are significant, this is just the beginning. “We believe that the future of technology consists in understanding data and artificial intelligence in the field of endoscopy,” says Miquel Angel García, a global ecosystem of endoscopy solutions in Olympus.

“Our mission is to use technology to relieve administrative and cognitive challenges that clinicians are facing, deal with such problems as data silos and financial restrictions, and at the same time the priority of patients’ safety to create more smooth and effective health care experience.”

A study from the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust in Great Britain showed that digital transformation in healthcare can save the time of nurses. In order to further inspect the integration of the health information system in the endoscopy department and how this can lead to annual cost savings, better efficiency, increased morale, greater confidence in the patient’s details and the elimination of paper -based processes, read Measuring the impact of digitization on the time and morale of NHS nurses: Test and movement testing
