For now, the only way to try out Apple Intelligence on an iPhone is with the iPhone 15 Pro. The entire iPhone 16 line is expected to get the features this fall, but “you can also bet” the iPhone SE, which is coming “as early as early 2025,” will have them too, says BloombergMark Gurman in today’s Turn on the power bulletin. If that’s true, it’ll be a lot harder for us to pass up Apple’s cheapest phone.
The iPhone SE deal was that you got a low-cost, fairly powerful iPhone that ran on an old-fashioned form factor (most recently the iPhone 8). It was always super obvious that this was a budget compromise from Apple!
The iPhone 16, which should be announced soon, is expected to have other advantages, like dual cameras and the action button from the 15 Pro, that haven’t been mentioned in the iPhone SE. But how crucial are these features to regular people? If the next SE looks like the iPhone 14, performs about as well as the iPhone 16 series, and is priced like, you know, the iPhone SE, will they continue to pass on those savings in favor of more costly iPhones? I guess we’ll find out soon enough.
