Taylor Swift said Tuesday that she intends to vote for Vice President Kamala Harris in the November presidential election — and that artificial intelligence-generated photos of her circulating online are partly what prompted her to publicly express her support.
“I recently learned that his website had posted an AI of ‘me’ falsely endorsing Donald Trump for president. It really raised my concerns about AI and the dangers of spreading misinformation.” – Swift he wrote in an Instagram post“It’s led me to the realization that I need to be very transparent about my actual plans for this election as a voter. The easiest way to combat disinformation is with the truth.”
Her post references an incident from slow August, when Trump shared a collection of photos with Truth Social to show support for his presidential campaign. Some of the photos feature “Swifties for Trump,” while another image, which was apparently generated by AI, features Swift herself in an Uncle Sam-style image with the text, “Taylor wants YOU to vote for Donald Trump.” The former president signed post“I accept!”
In her post of support, Swift also mentioned LGBTQ rights, reproductive health care, and in vitro fertilization as specific issues she cares about. She also directed fans to her Instagram Story, where she added a link to register to vote.
Some AI companies have increased restrictions on tools to curb election-related misinformation. For example, Google recently announced it would restrict election-related queries in AI Overviews, an AI-generated search results feature.
