The report says that data from acoustic sensors and deformation indicators on board indicate that the hull suffered delamination after diving to Titanic in 2022, causing a clamorous bang. It was said that Rush rejected this noise, and the report stated that there was no one in the company who was able to interpret the data from the sensor accordingly. The company’s engineering director gave up two months before implosion.
“Power has been consolidated in Mr. Rush,” says Neubauer. “There was no fixed standard for how loud noise or how many sounds you would get him out of service. I think it was deliberate. After all, they did not want to get him out of service.”
The report contains many recommendations that would raise federal underwater supervision served by American companies. It would also require a certificate of organizations of other companies, such as Lloyd or American Bureau of Shipping, even if they acted in international waters such as Titan. This would practically exclude the construction of a carbon fiber hull, because none of these organizations have classified the teams so far. “It seems that this is not the right material because of the way it requires cumulative damage over time,” says Neubauer.
Tony Nissen, the original Oceld engineering director, questions the general criticism of the carbon fiber hull report and its acoustic monitoring system. He notes that the problems with Titan’s first hull have been partly identified using acoustic sensors, leading them to scrapping and replacement. “The project was not inappropriate. So that anyone said that the project was inappropriate, they would have to deal with the analysis of the original manufacturer and the success of the first hull,” he says. “Real -time monitoring worked as designed and intended, but they ignored it for the second hull.”
“We praise the United States of Coast Guard for thorough work on confirming what industry experts have long known about the Titan tragedy – it could be prevented,” says Will Kohnen, executive director of the World District Organization Non -Profit. “It is now a challenge to move forward, build better domestic and international regulatory framework for immersion, so that safety and responsible management are standard in this unique and complex industry.”
The Coast Guard report also raises problems with the reaction to the search and rescue after the disappearance of Titan. Neubauer claims that some organizations listed as emergency contacts were not aware of Titan’s diving plans and that the company should have had a robotic remotely operated vehicle (ROV), which can dive at the same depth as immersion.
Although the world was on tents during four -day search and rescue efforts for Titan, Neubauer is skeptical that he could succeed.
“Although we finally considered the immersion in a 96-hour window, which was advertised, I do not think we could regain underwater or people if they survived, and it was tangled at the bottom,” he says. Rov, who located debris, had only the minimum ability to move or release a titan, especially considering that it would remain less than an hour of oxygen.
The Coast Guard report notes that if Rush survived, he would probably be subject to prosecution for neglect. He does not identify anyone else as subject to investigation. However, Wirred reported last year that the Southern District Novel York was conducting a criminal investigation in the oceanga case, probably related to financing. The Department of Justice did not confirm that the investigation and its current status is uncertain.
Nargeolet’s relatives are sued by oceangate, Rush estate and others involved in the production of Titan in Washington. Survivors of Rush, Nargeolet and paying passengers did not answer requests for comment.
Oceangate provided the following statement: “We again offer the deepest condolences to the families of people who died on June 18, 2023, and all those affected by the tragedy. After the tragedy, the company has permanently collapsed operations and fully directed its resources to cooperate with the quota guard inquiry.”
