The camera-equipped Solos shrewd glasses have arrived to provide some much-needed competition to the Meta Ray-Bans. AirGo’s vision is available starting at $299 — at the same price as Ray-Ban Meta technology — and integrates with OpenAI’s GPT-4o AI model to identify and answer questions about people, objects and text seen by the camera.
This allows AirGo Vision to, for example, translate text into different languages, provide directions to nearby locations or landmarks, and give the user more information about what they are looking at. Solos says the glasses can also be integrated with other AI models such as Google’s Gemini and Anthropic’s Claude, something the company teased back in June when it announced AirGo Vision.
Like Ray-Ban Meta shrewd glasses, the AirGo Vision camera can take photos on demand. The interchangeable frame system means you can wear the glasses with or without a camera – the battery and touch sensors used to control the device are housed in the rechargeable hinges of the USB-C frame, which, when paired with the standard, provides the option of an audio-only, camera-less AirGo frame.
“We promised that one of the things we would accomplish was to give consumers control over their experiences with AI and smart technology, especially with privacy options in mind,” Solos co-founder Kenneth Fan said in the announcement. “That’s why we developed frames that can be easily changed to decide when and where to use the camera, without sacrificing any of the fun features.”
Soros says the Vision is “available with the option to purchase the frame for just $149 or the Camera Frame Pack with a regular frame for enhanced privacy for $349.” It’s available in seven colors and two frame styles: Krypton 1, which has a huge square design with prominent nose pads, and the thinner Krypton 2.
