Adobe kicks off its annual Adobe Max conference today by introducing modern AI-powered features across its Imaginative Cloud applications. Fresh AI features in Photoshop like automatic background distraction removal and a more productive Firefly generative AI model are the biggest announcements, while Illustrator, InDesign and Premiere Pro will also get modern features that can aid speed up traditionally labor-intensive design tasks.
For example, modern “Removing interference” A feature has been added to the removal tool. The delete feature already works somewhat similar to Google’s Magic Eraser feature on Pixel phones, allowing users to quickly remove unwanted objects from photos by swiping over them. The modern Distraction Removal feature that Adobe announced last year is even more like Magic Eraser, automatically identifying common distractions like people, wires and cables and removing them with one click.
The Noise Removal feature is now available in Photoshop’s desktop and web apps, and Adobe says “more information will follow.” Photoshop users can now choose whether the removal tool uses generative AI – specifically Adobe’s Firefly image model – or non-generative AI technology, with the third option automatically selecting which technology to apply “based on the image and scene” to Get the best effect results.
Photoshop’s Generative Fill, Generative Expansion, Generate Similar, and Generate Background tools are now generally available and have been updated with the latest Firefly Image 3, which was released in beta in April. Adobe says this is an update improves the diversity and photorealistic quality of generated results and understands convoluted prompts better than the previous model. The Photoshop web app also has a modern AI feature that makes editing easier by automatically selecting all objects in the image.
Adobe Illustrator is being updated with a modern “Objects on Path” feature that allows users to quickly attach, arrange, and move objects along any path, giving designers more flexibility when aligning their workspaces. The Mockup tool for creating designs on a 3D model is now widely available, and the Image Trace function, which converts raster images (JPEG, PNG, PSD, etc.) into scalable vectors, has been improved. Adobe says it now produces “clearer vectorized prints with cleaner lines that are more accurate to the original image.”
The Generative Expand tool, first introduced in Photoshop, is now generally available for InDesign and allows users to expand images to fit any layout they require. Adobe’s modern Firefly AI video model has introduced the modern Generative Extend feature to Premiere Pro. It’s in beta for now, but the video model will likely be used as the basis for other features of Adobe’s Imaginative Cloud apps in the coming year.
