Perplexity’s AI search engine can now shop for products for you

Perplexity is introducing a recent feature that will allow Pro subscribers to purchase a product without leaving the AI ​​search engine. When searching for a product using Perplexity, US-based Pro members can now select the “Buy with Pro” button, which will automatically order the product using their saved shipping and billing information.

Perplexity says all products purchased through Buy with Pro come with free shipping. For products that do not support Buy on Pro, Perplexity will redirect users to the retailer’s website to complete the purchase.

When asked if Perplexity receives any kickback from sales made through the Buy with Pro button, Perplexity spokeswoman Sara Platnick replied, “Not yet,” adding that “there is no commercial element to this feature.”

Users who do not subscribe to Perplexity’s $20/month Pro option will continue to see other updated AI shopping features, including recent product tabs that will appear on product-related searches. For users in the US, these cards show an image of the product and its price, as well as AI-written summaries of key features and reviews.

Perplexity is also introducing a recent AI-powered “Snap to Shop” search tool that will allow all users to take a photo of a product and ask questions about it, similar to Google Lens. This feature will only be available to Pro users at launch. Perplexity already allows Pro users to perform non-shopping visual searches.

It looks like Perplexity wants to expand shopping tools for sellers as well. The company is rolling out a recent seller program that will give sellers “insight into search and purchasing trends for their products.” This also increases the chance that Perplexity will recommend its products.
