Perplexity partners with Tripadvisor to source hotel information from real people

AI search engine Perplexity launches integration with Tripadvisor, which will add more information about hotels. Now, when you search for places to stay, Perplexity will show you a carefully curated list of hotels and a summary of why you chose them, based on information from Tripadvisor.

In the example provided by Perplexity, a search for “Madrid hotels for a business trip” results in Hotel Regina, which the search engine says you should choose “if you want a hotel in the center of Madrid, offering exceptional service and a rich breakfast offer.” It also displays Tripadvisor ratings and photos, as well as a list of benefits such as “location,” “service,” and “cleanliness.”

Previously, Perplexity only displayed a numbered list of hotels with their addresses, user ratings, and features, while also showing photos collected from each hotel’s website in a sidebar.

“Tripadvisor is an up-to-date and reliable source of information that we sync regularly,” said Perplexity co-founder Johnny Ho in an interview Edge. “We continuously index and retrieve relevant results based on the user’s query intent.”

Perplexity, which bills itself as an “answer engine” rather than a search engine, plans to expand Tripadvisor integration to include restaurant and attraction information in the future. The AI ​​search engine also added data from Yelp last year to fulfill its goal of including right information you can apply.

The change comes just weeks after ChatGPT widely rolled out its AI search engine, which now displays results from the web for certain queries. Perplexity’s Tripadvisor integration is already rolling out on the web, but will be available on its mobile app “soon.”
