And Peguine, A tech entrepreneur and marketing consultant based in Lisbon, lets most of his life run by a precocious lobster-themed AI assistant called Moltbot.
A self-proclaimed trailblazer and trend-spotter, Peguine discovered Moltbot a few weeks ago – then it was Clawdbot – after discussing a vibration coding side project with friends on WhatsApp. He installed it on his computer, connected it to numerous applications and online accounts, including Google Apps, and was amazed by its capabilities.
“I tried it, got interested, and then became obsessed,” says Peguine. “I could basically automate everything. It was magical.”
Moltbot makes ordinary AI assistants like Siri and Alexa seem quaint. The AI assistant is designed to constantly run on the user’s computer and communicate with various AI models, applications and online services to perform various tasks. Users can chat with him via WhatsApp, Telegram or any other chatting app. While regular assistants are constrained in the questions they can answer and the tasks they can perform, Moltbot can perform an almost unlimited range of tasks spanning a variety of applications, coding, and internet usage.
Peguine has his own Moltbot called “Pokey” that gives him morning briefings, organizes his workday to maximize productivity, organizes meetings, manages calendar conflicts, and handles invoices. Pokey even warns him and his wife when his children have an upcoming test or homework.
Peguine is just one of Moltbot’s many novel apprentices. The AI assistant has been making waves on social media in recent days as developers, entrepreneurs and tech enthusiasts discovered its impressive capabilities in terms of organization, automation and all-round usefulness.
“For the first time since ChatGPT launched, I felt like I was living in the future,” he declared Dave Morinanother Moltbot fan, on X.
“It gives you the same kick as when we first saw the power of ChatGPT, DeepSeek and Claude Code” he wrote Abhishek Katiyar, user X who claims to work at Amazon. “You realize there’s a fundamental change happening.”
“The future is here” was: A common refrain among those covered with Moltbots.
While AI is notoriously imperfect, some Moltbot fanboys are clearly automating high-stakes stuff.
André Foeken, chief technology officer of a Dutch healthcare company, claims he gave Moltbot his credit card details and Amazon login, then sent it a message asking it to buy items for him. “I had it scan my messages and it automatically ordered certain things. Which is both cool and the reason I turned off message scanning 🤣,” Foeken told WIRED. Other users posted screenshots of Moltbot performing tests and providing stock trading advice.
The Moltbot fandom has reached such a frenzy in recent days that the idea of purchasing a Mac Mini to run the novel assistant has become so popular Quick became AND memeand users joke that implementing the assistant is becoming more and more absurd. Interestingly, interest in Moltbot was apparently sparked by: increase in share prices for Cloudflare, even though he has no affiliation with the company.
The origin of the lobster
Moltlbot was released by an independent developer Piotr Steinberger as Clawdbot last November. (It changed its name this week at the request of Anthropic, which offers several AI models called Claude.)
Steinberger says he started building Moltbot as an experimental way to feed images and other files into coding models. He realized he had hit on something bigger when he tried to send a voice note to his proto-assistant and was shocked to see it sent him a reply.
“I wrote, ‘How the hell did you do that?'” Steinberger says. His tool explained that it had checked the file, recognized it as an audio format, and found a key on his computer that could be used to access OpenAI’s voice transcription service called Whisper. He then converted it to text and read it. “That was the moment when I thought, ‘Shit,’” he says. “These models are really creative if you give them the power.”
