The glucose function requires OURA users to buy CGM DEXCOM STELO, which costs 99 USD and can now be bought directly from the Oura website. After pairing, people with the Oura and Stelo ring will be able to watch their glucose data in the Oura application along with other indicators such as stress, movement and tags. They will also get AI summaries about their daily glucose trends. There is also a recent indicator called “Time above”, which will inform users how long their glucose levels will remain above the ideal target 70-140 mg/dl.
Considering that the glucose function requires a Dexcom frame (and therefore regulatory clearance), so far, Oura claims that this function will appear only in the US – although it qualifies for FSA / HSA.
Meanwhile, the function of meals is more directly used by Chatbot Oura Advisor, which uses generative artificial intelligence to analyze long -term data and trends of the user, as well as giving guidance on general health questions. This specific function works when taking pictures of meals. Then Oura Advisor analyzes what you eat and gives the breakdown of its estimated nutritional macronutrients and nutritional value. After displaying the prompt, it can also provide feedback on the construction of more satisfying meals and provide what Oura defines as “deprived of judgment” based on general health goals. People who apply both meals and glucose functions will also receive access to another indicator called “Time at the level of meal above the range”, which analyzes how long the glucose level remains raised after eating.
Pivot Oura is not unexpected. Although this is not yet the main goal of the SmartWatch health function, metabolic health is clearly another limit of smart rings.
