The company is releasing a full version of its o1 model (replacing the o1-preview), which was initially released as a constrained preview in September (codenamed “Strawberry”). The up-to-date model will be available to ChatGPT Plus and Team users today, while Enterprise and Edu users will have access to it from next week.
The company is also introducing ChatGPT Pro, a up-to-date $200 monthly subscription tier that includes unlimited access to OpenAI o1, GPT-4o, and Advanced Voice mode. It also includes the o1 version, available exclusively to Pro users, which uses more processing power to provide the best possible answer to the most hard problems (so-called o1 pro mode). The company will continue to offer the Plus tier for $20 per month, which includes early access to up-to-date features, access to all of the company’s models (except the more powerful o1 version), and more.
Edge we previously reported on the startup’s plans to launch a 12-day “ship” period for up-to-date features, products and demos, with announcements that will include its long-awaited OpenAI text-to-video AI tool, Sora, and a up-to-date model.
The company said that compared to the o1-preview version, users can expect a faster, more proficient and more exact model that is better at coding and math. It can also provide “sentient” responses to images. OpenAI promises that it has been trained to be more concise, which should result in faster response times than o1-preview.
OpenAI plans to add support for web browsing, file transfers and more in ChatGPT – although there is no timetable for these changes.
It also announced the ChatGPT Pro grant program, which awards 10 ChatGPT Pro grants to medical researchers at leading institutions, with plans for additional grants in a variety of disciplines.
