In response to the pressure of rivals, including the Chinese company AI Deepseek, Openai changes the way its latest model AI, O3-Mini, communicates the “thinking” process step by step.
Openai on Thursday announced This free and paid chatgpt users, AI Chatbot platform, will see an updated “chain of thoughts”, which shows more steps to “reasoning” of the model and the way in which the questions were to answer. Subscribers of ChatgPT Premium plans who exploit O3-Mini in the “high reasoning” configuration will also see this updated reading, according to OpenAI.

Models of reasoning, such as O3-Mini, carefully check the facts before issuing the results, which helps them avoid some traps that usually stumble over models. The compromise lies in the fact that the reasoning models last a little longer to reach the solutions-firmly a few seconds to minutes longer.
The R1 Deepseek model, the “reasoning” model in the direction of O3-Mini, reveals a full thought process, which, according to many AI researchers, is the preferred approach. In addition to facilitating the study of the model, the reasoning steps ensure a better user experience in some situations, helping to indicate when the model can be proper – or bad – trace.
Opeli decided not to show the full steps of reasoning for O3-Mini and its predecessors, O1 and O1-Mini, partly for competitive reasons. Instead, users only saw summaries of reasoning steps – summaries that were sometimes incorrect.

Opeli still does not show the full reasoning of the O3-Mini, but the company said that “found a balance”: O3-Mini can “think freely” and then organize its “thoughts” into more detailed summaries.
“To improve transparency and security, we added an additional end step in which the model reviews the raw chain of thoughts, removing any dangerous content, and then simplifies all complex ideas,” the Opeli spokesman concluded. “In addition, this step by processing allows non -English users to receive a chain of thoughts in their native language, creating a more accessible and friendly impression.”
Last week, at Reddit Ama Kevin Weil, director of the OpenAI product product, he suggested that the change was coming.
“We are working on showing a group more than today we show – [showing the model thought process] It will be very, very soon – he said. “TBD for all – showing the entire chain of thoughts leads to competitive distillation, but we also know that people (at least advanced users) want it, so we will find the right way to balance.”
