Another day, another AI browser. This time it’s Firefox, Mozilla’s self-proclaimed “independent browser.” Firefox says yes building an AI browsing feature called AI Window which includes an AI assistant and a chatbot. The company calls this an optional “user-controlled smart space,” which is currently built “in the open” with user input.
In September, the company launched a “shake to summarize” feature in Firefox that uses artificial intelligence to generate summaries of web pages open on your iPhone. Mozilla positions itself as a company that respects browsing and gives users the opportunity to employ any artificial intelligence.
“While others are creating AI-powered solutions that keep you in the conversational loop, we see a different path — one where AI serves as a trusted companion, improving your browsing experience and connecting you to the broader web,” Mozilla wrote on its company blog.
AI Window will be one of three browsing options offered to Firefox users, in addition to private and classic windows. In post to the Mozilla Connect forum on Thursday, the company wrote that users will be able to select the AI model they want to employ in AI Window, but provided a few additional details. Users interested in AI Window product updates you can join Mozilla’s waiting list.
