Google creates many AI products and often uses AI to create these products. “More than a quarter of all new code at Google is generated by artificial intelligence, then reviewed and approved by engineers” – CEO Sundar Pichai he said further announcement of the company’s results for the third quarter of 2024. This is a milestone that shows how critical artificial intelligence is for the company.

Artificial intelligence also helps Google make money. Alphabet reported revenue of $88.3 billion per quarterwith Google services revenue (including search) at $76.5 billion, up 13 percent year-over-year, and Google Cloud (which includes third-party AI infrastructure products) at $11.4 billion, up an boost of 35 percent year-on-year.

Operating revenues were also high. Google Services reached $30.9 billion, up from $23.9 billion last year, and Google Cloud reached $1.95 billion, a significant boost from $270 million last year.

“In search, our new AI features expand what searches are and how people can find them,” CEO Sundar Pichai said in a statement. “In the cloud, our AI solutions help us expand product adoption among existing customers, attract new customers and win larger deals. Over the past four quarters, YouTube’s combined advertising and subscription revenue has exceeded $50 billion for the first time.”

Google, however, faces a potentially complex road ahead after an August ruling that the company was a monopoly in the search and advertising market. This case, brought by the US Department of Justice, is currently in the resolution stage, and while there is still work to be done for the dust to settle, a breakup of Google is being considered.
