Model contextual protocol: a promising layer of AI integration, but not standard (yet)

Over the past few years, when AI systems have become more able not only to generate text, but also to take action, make decisions and integrate with corporate systems, with additional complexity. Each AI model has its own, reserved interface with different software. Each added system creates another integration jam, and IT teams spend more time connecting systems than using them. This integration tax is not unique: it is a hidden cost of today’s fragmentary AI landscape.

The model contextual protocol (MCP) is one of the first attempts to fill this gap. He proposes a pure, nonsense protocol for how vast language models (LLM) can discover and cause external tools with consistent interfaces and minimal friction of programmers. This can potentially transform the isolated AI capabilities into composite, ready -made work flows. In turn, this can make normal and simpler integrations. Is this the panacea we need? Before we delve, we first understand what MCP is about.

At the moment, the integration of tools in LLM powered systems is at best ad hoc. Each agent framework, each plug system and each model supplier tend to define their own way to invoice tool tool. This leads to reduced portability.

MCP offers a refreshing alternative:
