Microsoft is Advanced Paste tool updated in PowerToys for Windows 11, allowing you to utilize the AI model on your device to support some of its features. WITH update 0.96you can route requests through Microsoft’s Foundry Local or the open-source Ollama software, which run AI models on the device’s neural processing unit (NPU) instead of connecting to the cloud.

This means you won’t have to purchase API credits to perform certain actions, such as AI translation or summarizing text copied to the clipboard. Additionally, you can store your data on your device.

In addition to on-device AI support, you can now configure Advanced Paste to work with many other online models, including Azure OpenAI, Gemini, and Mistral. The tool previously only supported OpenAI.

There are also fresh changes to the appearance of the Advanced Paste tool, which now shows the current contents of the clipboard and includes a drop-down menu for model selection.
