These AI projects include Prometheus, the first of several supercluster computing systems scheduled to come online in Novel Albany, Ohio, later this year. Under the agreements, Meta finances the construction of up-to-date nuclear reactors, the first of which may be launched “as early as 2030.” These announcements are part of Meta’s ongoing goal to support future AI efforts with nuclear power, following a deal last year with Constellation to revitalize its aging nuclear power plant.
Financial details about the contracts were not disclosed, but Meta says it will “cover the full cost of energy used by our data centers so that consumers do not have to bear these expenses.”
“Our agreements with Vistra, TerraPower, Oklo and Constellation make Meta one of the most important corporate purchasers of nuclear energy in American history,” Meta’s chief global affairs officer, Joel Kaplan, said in a statement. “Modern data centers and artificial intelligence infrastructure are essential to securing America’s position as a global leader in artificial intelligence.”
