Mark Zuckerberg is excited to add more AI content to all your social channels

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg is gearing up to push even more AI-generated posts to your social media channels. During Wednesday’s earnings call, Zuckerberg said the company will “add another huge trove of content” to its recommendation system as artificial intelligence “makes it easier to create and remix” works shared online.

“Social media has gone through two eras so far,” Zuckerberg said. “First, all content came from friends, family, and accounts you directly followed. Second, we added all Creator content.” While Zuckerberg stops tiny of calling artificial intelligence the third era of social media, it’s clear that the technology will be heavily involved in what comes next.

Zuckerberg said recommendation systems that “deeply understand” AI-generated posts and “show relevant content” will be “increasingly valuable.” The company has already started embedding AI tools into its apps and is currently also experimenting with dedicated AI social apps.

Meta’s chief financial officer, Susan Li, said humans have generated more than 20 billion images on the company’s recent Vibes app, which hosts a feed of AI-generated videos, similar to OpenAI’s Sora. “I think Vibes is an example of a new type of content made possible by AI, and I think there are even more opportunities ahead of us to create much more innovative types of content,” Zuckerberg added.

Meta reported revenue was $51.24 billion in the quarter, up 26 percent year-over-year, but took a one-time tax charge of $15.93 billion related to President Donald Trump’s Massive Stunning Bill.
