Korea officially launches gigantic biodata project

The South Korean government has started recruiting participants for the National Bio Gigantic Data Integrated Construction Project.

An ambitious 606 billion won (over $400 million) the project is the largest ever healthcare project in Korea, commissioned by the Korea Research Institute of Biology and Biotechnology.

It aims to collect clinical and genomic data on one million people over the next eight years, including patients with uncommon diseases and sedate conditions. The resulting gigantic database will be available to university and hospital researchers from 2026 to support research in precision medicine and digital health.

The project is led by the Ministries of Health and Welfare, Science and ICT, Trade, Industry and Energy, and the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency.


AIIMS Delhi is setting up an artificial intelligence development center

The flagship unit of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Modern Delhi will set up an innovation center to develop AI solutions in healthcare.

The public medical university recently signed an MoU with GE HealthCare India’s joint venture, Wipro GE Healthcare, to set up an AI Health Innovations Hub. The latter will reportedly invest $1 million in the center over five years, supporting the development, testing and implementation of bright systems and AI-based workflow solutions in cardiology, oncology and neurology.


NEC Thailand plans nationwide expansion of digital elderly care

NEC Thailand is supporting the shrewd transformation of Umong, a municipality in Lamphun Province in northern Thailand, by providing digital eldercare technology.

It signed a memorandum of understanding with the municipality to jointly develop a digital healthcare platform that connects with local medical facilities to support long-term care for the elderly and patients with chronic diseases.

The project also involves the integration of fall detection technology. It is also planned to introduce remote care technologies, including IoT devices.

NEC has worked on a similar shrewd transformation project with: Last year in Chiang Mai. The initial success of the current project with Umong “will serve as a model for other municipalities across Thailand,” the statement said.
