Instagram plans to introduce an AI generative editing feature next year that will allow users to “change almost every aspect of your videos.” Technology is powered by Meta Gen movie You have a model according to a teaser posted by Instagram CEO Adam Mosseriand aims to give creators more tools to assist transform their content and bring ideas to life without requiring extensive editing and video manipulation skills.
Mosseri says the feature can make changes via a “simple text prompt.” The announcement video previews AI models from early research that change Mosseri’s outfit, background environment, and even his overall appearance – in one scene, transforming him into a felt puppet. Other changes are more subtle, such as adding fresh objects to the existing background or the gold chain around Mosseri’s neck without changing the rest of his clothing.
This is an impressive preview. The inserted backgrounds and clothing don’t distort unnaturally when Mosseri moves his hands or face quickly, but the bits we see last only a second. However, early previews of OpenAI’s Sora video model also looked incredibly polished, and the results we’ve seen since it was released to the public have fallen miniature of those expectations. We won’t know how good Instagram’s AI video tools are until they launch.
