Hundreds of AI Google employees were dismissed among the fight for working conditions

Over 200 Contractors who worked on the evaluation and improvement of AI Google products were released without warning in at least two rounds of dismissals last month. According to employees who talked to Wired.

Over the past few years, Google has commissioned its work, AI-which covers the assessment, editing or rewriting chatbot Gemini answers, so that it sounds more human and “intelligent”-thousands of contractors employed by Globallogic and other outsourcing companies. Most evaluators working in Globalogic are based in the USA and deal with content in English. Like content moderators, assist to delete and classify content in social media, these employees employ their specialist knowledge, skills and judgment to teach chatbots and other AI products, including the Google search summary function called AI AI Review – appropriate answers to many topics. Employees say that the latest cuts appear among attempts to repeal protests regarding problems, including uncertainty in the field of remuneration and work.

Those employees who are often employed because of their specialist knowledge had to have a doctorate or doctorate to join the Super Rater program, and usually include writers, teachers and people in artistic fields.

“I was just cut off,” says Andrew Luzon, who received an e-mail with a message about his termination on August 15. “I asked for some reason, and they said to the project-whatever that means.” He joined Globalogic in March 2024, where his work hesitated from assessing the results of artificial intelligence after inventing various hints to transfer the model.

Luzon claims that this company’s movement shows the uncertainty of such tasks related to moderation of content. He claims that Globalogic began to regularly submit employees this year. “How should we feel safe in this employment when we know that we can go at any time?” He added.

Employees still claim that they are increasingly afraid that they are created to replace themselves. According to internal documents viewed by Wired, Globalogic seems to employ these human resections to train the AI Google system, which could automatically assess the answers in order to replace their artificial intelligence.

At the same time, the company also finds ways to get rid of current employees because it still employs recent employees. In July, Globalogic made him obligatory for his employees in Austin, Texas to return to the office, as seen by Wired. This directly influenced several employees who either cannot afford to travel to the office due to financial restrictions or cannot go to work due to disability or care obligations.

Despite the service of work, which they describe as qualified and high rates, eight employees who talked to Wired, claims that they are not paid and suffer from a lack of work safety and adverse working conditions. These alleged conditions influenced the morale of employees and challenged people’s ability to work well, say sources. Some contractors tried to unite at the beginning of this year, but they claim that these efforts were repealed. Now they claim that the company has revealed them against them. Two employees lodged a complaint to the National Council for Labor Relations, claiming that they were unjustly dismissed, one because of causing problems with wage transparency, and the other for being asheld for themselves and his colleagues.
