Following Apple’s integration of OpenAI’s ChatGPT solution into iOS 18, iPadOS 18 and macOS Sequoia, OpenAI details how your data is processed when using ChatGPT with Apple integration.
You can operate ChatGPT through Apple integration without signing in to your ChatGPT account, but you’ll gain access to additional features if you sign in to your account. For example, you gain access to more powerful OpenAI artificial intelligence models and the ability to record conversations.
Using ChatGPT without an account via Apple integration
If you operate ChatGPT via Apple integration without logging into your ChatGPT account, OpenAI says it does not receive your IP address, store your requests, or operate them to train its AI models.
The company says your conversations are “processed by OpenAI solely to ensure a secure response and compliance with applicable regulations.”
If you choose to continue a conversation initially started through the Apple integration in the ChatGPT app or website, OpenAI processes your data in accordance with its privacy policy. This means that OpenAI will have access to your IP address, browser type and settings, the date and time of your request, your time zone, country, device information, and more.
OpenAI will also operate online analytics tools that operate cookies to enable analysis of how users interact with ChatGPT.
Using ChatGPT with your account via Apple integration
If you connect your account to Apple integration, your existing OpenAI data preferences will be applied.
For example, if your settings indicate that you want your conversations saved, then your conversations with ChatGPT through Apple integrations will also be saved in your account’s chat history. This means you can access them later through your account.
Additionally, if your ChatGPT settings indicate that you do not want your conversations to be used to train OpenAI models, the same applies to your interactions with ChatGPT through Apple integrations.
Once you have connected your account, OpenAI will share certain information about your ChatGPT account on your device in order to connect your account. This information includes your name, email address, profile picture, workspace names and your billing plan.
