HarperCollins has reached an agreement with an artificial intelligence technology company to enable constrained exploit of selected nonfiction titles to train AI models to improve model quality and performance. While we find this deal attractive, we respect the differing views of our authors and they may choose to enter into or opt out of the deal.
HarperCollins has a long history of innovation and experimenting with recent business models. Part of our role is to provide authors with the opportunity to be considered for publication, while protecting the fundamental value of their works and our shared sources of revenue and royalties. This agreement, with its constrained scope and explicit protections for model results that respect copyright, does just that.
