Google’s Gemini AI to Feature in Paris Olympics Broadcasts

The broadcast will feature 3D Google Maps views of venues like Versailles, Stade Roland Garros and the Aquatics Centre, as well as tidbits about the events taking place at each location. The images come from Immersive Views added to Maps over the past few years, which depict certain landmarks and areas of interest using photorealistic models.

As part of a deal to promote Gemini and other Google AI tools, commentators and speakers will be squeezing Google Search AI overviews into broadcast segments, attempting to answer Olympic and Paralympic questions. Hopefully, between that and Al Michaels’ AI-generated summaries, it all works better than when it told us to add pizza glue or that we should overexpose the entire film in the camera to fix a jam.

Plus, comedian Leslie Jones will enlist Gemini’s lend a hand to learn a modern sport, among other planned activities, while five Olympic and Paralympic athletes will appear in “social videos and late-night promos” using Gemini, Google Lens, Circle to Search and Google Maps Immersive View to explore Paris.

Disclosure: Comcast, owner of NBCUniversal, is also an investor in Vox Media, EdgeParent company.
