Google Search is in the process of “traveling” around artificial intelligence, said the general director of Google Sundar Pichai while merging with the company’s earnings on Tuesday. The beginning of this trip was the AI review, a controversial and monumental change in the way Google provides information to billions of search users.
But it was just the beginning.
“Because AI is still expanding the universe of queries that people can ask about, 2025 will be one of the largest years of search innovation,” said Pichai during the comments opening the call.
During the conversation, Pichai developed the next phase of the Google plan to pack a search with AI functions from the company’s research company, Deepmind. The search product is slowly becoming more similar to the AI assistant who browses the internet for you, looks at websites and refers to the answer.
It is far from a straightforward search system that gives ten blue links.
Google has been on this path for several years, since the search giant has been caught flat by releasing the Openai ChatgPT in 2022. The change has huge implications for websites that rely on Google traffic and companies that buy advertisements in Google search engine.
Not everyone is satisfied with it, but Google is pushing forward.
When asked about the future of artificial intelligence and search, Pichai said: “You can imagine the future with Project Astra”, reference to the multimodal AI Deepmind system, which can process live video from the camera or computer screen and answer the user’s questions about what Ai sees in real time.
Google has huge plans for the ASTRA project in other parts of its activity. The company claims that one day it wants the Multimodal AI system to supply a few bright outbuilding of augmented reality in which Google will create an operating system.
Pichai also mentioned the deep research of Gemini – an AI agent, who takes a few minutes to create long research reports – as a function that can fundamentally change the way people utilize Google search. Deep research automates the work that people traditionally performed with Google Search. But now it seems that Google wants to conduct these tests for users.
“You really radically expand the types of use cases for which search can work – things that do not always receive a response immediately, but it can spend some time,” said Pichai. “These are all areas of exploration, and you will see how we set new experiences before users during 2025.”
Pichai continued to say that Google has a “clear sense” of search experiences that he could create with other AI Google, Project Mariner agents. This system can utilize the front of the sites on behalf of users, which makes unnecessary to people using sites.
Google General Director also said that there is a “possibility” to enable users more interaction and asking subsequent questions in Google search engine. Pichai was featherlight on the details, but it seems that Google is considering ways to make his search interface more like chatbot.
“I think [Search] The product evolves even more – said Pichai. “When you make it easier for people to interact and ask the following questions, etc., I think we have the opportunity to raise growth.”
Today, Chatgpt has matured to one of the most -used products on the Internet, with hundreds of millions of weekly users. This is an existential threat to Google Search long -term business. To take care of it, Google builds not only a competitor AI Chatbot from Gemini, but also inject AI functions directly in searching.
Of course, the first step when traveling AI Google Search did not go well. When Google introduced AI for all Google search engine, the system displayed misleading and strange AI hallucinations. They included the answers that made people eat rocks and pizza glue. Google admitted that the AI review required some work.
Despite this negative implementation, it seems that Google is just beginning to put artificial intelligence in searching.
