Google stops the implementation of the “ASK-AK Photos” function in Google’s pictures, which has been slowly developing since last fall. “Ask photos is not where it should be,” wrote Jamie Aspinall, product manager for Google Photos, post At X, he responds to criticism, citing three factors: delay, quality and user experience.

The experimental function is powered by Google “The most talented” AI Gemini models. In particular, this is a specialized version of twins models, which are “used only to give photos” according to Google.

Aspinall said that Google stopped the implementation of this function “with very small numbers when solving these problems” and that in about two weeks the team would send a better version “that restores speed and recalling the original search.

At the same time Google It was also announced on Tuesday This search of keywords in the pictures is getting better, enabling the use of quotes to find accurate text fittings in “files, camera models, signatures or lyrics” or searching without quotes, which also contain visual fittings.

Google announced this function in May last year on I/O 2024 and established it as a way to interrogate the application of photos to obtain questions with common sense in which another person would have to help-tj. By asking what topics you chose in the past for a child’s birthday party or what national parks you visited.

“Gemini’s multimodal capabilities can aid you understand exactly what is happening in each photo, and even read the text if necessary,” the company wrote in the advertisement. “Ask photos and then create a helpful answer and choose which photos and videos return.”

This is not the first time Google has stopped implementing the function of artificial intelligence, because it competes in a rapidly intensifying AI arms race with other technological giants and startups.

In May in May, within weeks of the debut of “Przegląd AI” at Google Search, Google stopped this function after nonsense and inaccurate answers in social media, without the possibility of abandoning use. Two known examples: Barack Obama, the first Muslim president of the United States and recommended users put the glue on the pizza to keep the cheese.

And in February last year, Google introduced the Gemini image generation tool with a huge number of fanfar, and then stopped this function in the same month after reporting historical inaccuracy users, such as the image generated by AI depicting American fathers as colorful people.
