Google is making Gemini shrewd home control available to everyone. The Google Home extension in the Gemini app adds several modern features, and also lets you customize your shrewd lights, thermostat, speakers, and other compatible devices as long as they’re connected to your Google account.
Google first released the extension in November last year. With it, you can employ natural language to control your shrewd home when interacting with Gemini, for example by saying “The sun is too bright in the living room” to close the shrewd blinds. But now Gemini can also perform many commands, such as “Turn on the light in the armchair too, but dim the lamp in the kitchen.” You’ll be able to employ the Google Home extension to ask Gemini about the status of your devices, too, such as whether you left the porch featherlight on.
Additionally, Google will let you control “non-sensitive” shrewd home devices like lights from your phone’s lock screen. Other updates include the ability to adjust volume, pause and resume media on shrewd speakers, displays and TVs in the Gemini app, as well as an updated thermostat control design that matches that in Google Home. Gemini will also automatically open the Google Home app to perform camera and lock security activities (previously it only connected you).
The launch of the Google Home extension follows a major Gemini update that allows you to perform more convoluted tasks across multiple apps. You can try it integration for yourself by logging into Gemini with the same account you employ for Home and enabling the Google Home extension. It will launch today but will be rolled out “over the coming weeks.”
