Google can turn your Discover feed into an AI-generated podcast

Share

Google is testing an experimental AI feature that creates a personalized podcast based on your search and discovery feed history. By: Daily Listen in Google Search Labs will be rolling out to Android and iOS users in the US 9to5Googleand works similarly to the Audio Reviews feature in the Google NotebookLM project.

Daily Listen draws on search data and interactions with Discover channels to assess which stories a user will find most intriguing, then summarizes those stories and topics in a roughly five-minute audio digest. It provides text transcription along with audio scrolling controls that allow users to play, pause, mute, rewind, or go to the next story.

Search Labs users who agree to participate in this experiment will find the Daily Listen option in a personalized widget carousel below the search bar at the top of the Google app. A “Related Stories” tab will appear at the bottom of the audio player, corresponding to the content in the overview, which allows users to like or dislike each story with a thumbs up/down and discover up-to-date topics.

There is currently no word on when or if this feature will be made available to the general public. Google’s AI Search Reviews were tested in a similar way in search labs before being released to the general public last year, so it’s possible that Daily Listen will one day become a indefinite feature – hopefully, it’ll be easier to opt out of than AI Reviews.
