Federal employees are starting a modern process of fighting access to Doge data

A modern lawsuit filed today by over 100 federal employees in the American Southern District Court in Novel York claims that the decision of the Trump administration on issuing the so -called government efficiency department (dog) for their sensitive personal data is illegal. The plaintiffs ask the court to issue an order to cut off the Doge access to information from Office of Personnel Management (OPM), which functions as the Department of HR of the United States, and houses of houses about federal employees, such as social insurance, telephone, telephone, telephone, telephone, telephone numbers , telephone, telephone, telephone, telephone numbers and staff files. Wired earlier informed that musk and people with connections with him took OPM.

“The accused OPM gave the accused Doge and agents of the Doge-Z of whom many are less than 25 years old and is or has been or until recently employees of private companies Musk-Dotype to OPM computer systems, without going through normal, rigorous, rigorous veterination in the field of national security in terms of security national – claims the complaint. The plaintiffs accuse the dog of violating the Privacy Act, the Act of 1974, which determines how the government can collect, use and store personal data.

Elon Musk, Doge organization, Personnel Management Office and OPM Director, Charles Ezell, are as defendants in this case. The plaintiffs include over one hundred individual federal employees from the entire US government, as well as the groups that represent them, including the AFL-CIO, the trade union coalition, the American Federation of Government Workers and the Association of Administrative Legal Judges. AFGE represents over 800,000 federal employees from social security administration employees to border patrol agents.

The plaintiffs are represented by outstanding lawyers of the technology industry, including an adviser from Electronic Frontier Foundation, a digital group of rights, as well as Mark Lemley, a lawyer of intellectual property and technology, which recently abandoned the meta as a client in his disputed lawsuit for AI’s copyright, because he objected It is that what he claims is to embrace “neo -Nazi madness.”

“Illegal access to Doge employee documentation turns out to be a way in which they try to achieve a number of other illegal goals. For example, they got a list of all government employees to submit their illegal purchase offer. It gives them access to information about transgender employees so that they can illegally discriminate against these employees. And it is the basis for illegal dismissals that we have seen in many departments – said Lemley Wired.

Lawyer Eff Victoria Noble claims that there are increased concerns about access to Doge data due to the political nature of the Musk project. For example, Noble says that there is a risk that Musk and his acolytes can employ OPM data to attack ideological opponents or “people they consider disloyal.”

“There is a significant risk that this information can be used to identify employees in order to basically end based on improper considerations,” said Noble Wired. “There is medical information, there is information about disability, information about people’s involvement in relationships.”

The Personnel Management Office and the White House did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The team behind the lawsuit plans to push even more. “This is simply the first phase, focused on obtaining an order to stop the constant violation of the right,” says Lemley. The next phase will include the submission of a collective claim on behalf of the affected federal employees.
