Microsoft is updating its Copilot app for Windows to let you create documents during chat sessions and connect to Gmail and Outlook accounts. The updated Copilot app is initially rolling out to all Windows Insiders and will then roll out to all Windows 11 users.
Copilot on Windows can now create Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations and PDF files, all from the chat interface. “With tooltips, you can instantly turn ideas, notes and data into documents that can be shared and edited, without the need for additional steps or tools,” he explains Microsoft Copilot Team. “And for responses of 600 characters or more, Copilot also includes a default export button that lets you send text directly to Word, PowerPoint, Excel or PDF.”
You’ll also be able to connect Copilot to your Outlook or Gmail accounts, so the AI assistant can display content from your online accounts. You can then ask Copilot to find all invoices from a given company in your inbox or view a contact’s email address.
This is an optional feature and you must explicitly link your Outlook or Google account in the connectors section of the app. You can connect OneDrive, Outlook, Google Drive, Gmail, Google Calendar and Google Contacts. It is similar to the Google Drive and Dropbox integration that OpenAI launched with ChatGPT earlier this year.
The updated Copilot app for Windows comes ahead of the novel OneDrive app that Microsoft is expected to release next year. The improved OneDrive for Windows app will include a novel gallery view, AI-powered slideshows, and editing features.
