ChatGPT shopping research creates a buyer’s guide using artificial intelligence

OpenAI makes it basic to plan your holiday shopping with ChatGPT latest featurecalled “purchase research”. Any purchase inquiry on ChatGPT will trigger this recent feature, which will be made available to all ChatGPT users on free and paid plans on mobile and web, with “nearly unlimited usage” available during the holiday shopping season.

Now if you ask ChatGPT for “best bright light TVs” such as companies like announcement video shows, the response will end with a button asking if you want to do additional research. This is where the “personal shopper” aspect comes into play, although the blog post notes that “shopping research may cause errors in product details such as price and availability, so we encourage you to visit the retailer’s website for the most accurate information.”

According to OpenAI, it is built on GPT-5 mini, which has been enhanced for shopping tasks and features product recommendations from “high-quality sources” on the internet with “up-to-date information such as price, availability, reviews, specifications, and photos.” They can also include previous conversations with ChatGPT and the user’s “memory”, if enabled, along with buttons showing “more like this” or “not interested” in certain items.

Pro users will see proactively recommended products in “buyer’s guides” based on their previous Pulse chats. “For example, if you are talking about electric bikes, the future Pulse tab may suggest useful accessories for you,” OpenAI wrote.
