Providing over 200 million protein structures as source code to lend a hand scientists solve countless problems
Gigantic data in biology leads to discoveries that can benefit humanity. This is a fundamental belief in European Bioinformatics Institute EMBL (EMBL-EBI) and what its scientists have demonstrated since the institute was founded at the Wellcome Genome Campus in Hinxton, UK, in 1994.
Hi European Molecular Biology LaboratoryThe institute is an intergovernmental research organization funded by more than 20 member states. Its data includes genomics, proteins, petite molecules, data models and much more.
As a champion of open data in the life sciences, EMBL-EBI was a natural partner for DeepMind to host AlphaFold Protein Structure Databaseproviding scientists worldwide with free access to protein structure predictions.
The database, which was launched in 2021 with approximately 365,000 structure predictions, now contains more than 200 million predictions, covering nearly all catalogued proteins known to science and increasing our understanding of biology by orders of magnitude.
