AI-powered dating is all the hype. IRL cruises are the future

I am, in fact, huge flirt. I love everything about exchanging and getting to know another person. Fun banter. A rush of dopamine. Sexual subtlety and the subtext of everything that isn’t said. For me, flirting remains one of the last human endeavors in which people deliberately try to find common ground. It’s pure possibility, absolute magnetism. It is also an art that cannot be faked or, despite Silicon Valley’s best attempts, improved by artificial intelligence.

That, of course, didn’t stop Huge Dating from going all-in on virtual intimacy this year, with the focus shifting from endless swipes to AI-powered matchmaking. As the dating fatigue narrative reaches novel heights, the trend towards forthright relationships was an overdue corrective from an industry that has spent the past decade built on ruthless scale, maniacal ambition and profit incentivesonly to realize that the answer was right in front of them all along: you win by investing in people.

Integrating AI tools wasn’t simply about keeping up with the Joneses or taking advantage of novel innovations (though was some of this). This time it was more than just a conversation: Huge Dating was seeking absolution for its sins.

Where dating apps once conspired to retain users in any way, artificial intelligence has made it possible to connect people more quickly and perhaps forever. This has led many companies to reconsider their user experiences. According to Pew Research Center test a few years ago in the USA almost 60 percent single adults stated that they are not currently looking for a relationship or casual dating. And although we are not in a romantic recession – vigorous users remain high; not to mention that Facebook dating is a secret hit among Gen Z — according to analytics firm Apptopia, overall user engagement on several apps has increased decreased by 7 percent year to year. (Yes, even despite a Belgian artist’s bizarre attempt to match people based on their browser history.)

It’s not a crisis or anything like that – hundreds of millions of people are still browsing, scrolling and the like every day – Huge Dating was just in desperate need of repairing its reputation. AI looked like the answer.

in October The three-day ruleexperienced matchmaking service, has launched an AI app trained by matchmakers called Tai that offers real-time coaching. Grindr, which is trying to become the world’s largest gay community by switching to “native artificial intelligence”, uses tools from Anthropic and Amazon on wingman features and chat summaries (although some users they were not happy about the wide employ of machine technology in the application). Iris, RizzAND You are alive Artificial intelligence features have also been implemented to aid users navigate the early stages of a conversation.

The year everyone had it Love Island USA in the brain, the longing has returned, right-wing influencers have campaigned for a greater share of the dating zeitgeist, and virtual relationships have seen record growth – as have anecdotally AI-driven divorces. (According to the report of Fr TechCrunchthe market for artificial intelligence solutions has grown by over 96 percent since 2024). Meanwhile, Tinder has passed brand refresh and tried to attract more Gen Z users. “The biggest issue that concerns us… is the mass creation of new accounts,” Yoel Roth, Match Group’s director of trust and safety, told WIRED in October after the launch of Tinder’s mandatory facial verification update.
