UiPath (NYSE: PATH), leading enterprise automation and artificial intelligence software company, published its yearbook Global Knowledge Worker Survey that explores how employees utilize generative artificial intelligence (GenAI), the shortcomings and risks associated with this technology, and the opportunities to combine GenAI with business automation.
The report – based on a survey of over 9,000 employees from around the world – shows that employees who utilize GenAI tools save more time during the workday. However, people who utilize GenAI and business automation together achieve much more significant benefits.
While GenAI promises to revolutionize operations across industries, there is a lack of enterprise focus and training on the technology, leading to distrust among employees around the world. Currently, less than half (45%) of employees have received training or guidance on using GenAI. Similarly, only 44% of employees believe that GenAI has the context business data needs to support processes and drive value – although this number increases to 85% when employees utilize GenAI and business automation together.
Other key findings from this year’s report:
- GenAI saves employees significant time: 42% of respondents who implemented GenAI saved 10 or more hours per week. Thanks to free time during the day, almost half of employees (48%) were able to focus on more original tasks. Regionally, employees in Singapore and Hong Kong saw the greatest time savings by implementing GenAI tools.
- The combination of GenAI and business automation maximizes business value: When asked if employees experienced any benefits from using GenAI and business automation software, respondents said increased productivity/faster task completion (43%), more exact work (39%), and better work-life balance (38%) . When employees utilize technology together, 55% saved more than 10 hours at work per week compared to 31% of those using GenAI alone and 33% of those using business automation alone.
- However, there is a lack of trust in GenAI tools: Less than half (48%) of respondents indicate they trust the results obtained from GenAI tools. Regionally, Japan (26%), Germany (47%) and the US (48%) trust GenAI’s results the least, and the most trust in Singapore (67%), Korea (63%) and Hong Kong (62%). confidence in GenAI results.
- GenAI is used in various departments and processes: The most popular tasks for which employees utilize GenAI include preparing messages (38%), brainstorming (34%), and summarizing long content (30%).
