ChatGPT is currently not working for many users. We have also confirmed through numerous reports on social media that the chatbot is loading but is unable to answer queries, while others you see an “internal server error” message.
The outage appears to have started around 1:30 p.m. ET, which is when reports began to emerge jump on the Down detector. At 2:00 PM EST, OpenAI posted status page updatesays ChatGPT, Sora’s API and text-to-video generator, “is currently experiencing high error rates.”
At 5:05 PM ET, OpenAI reported that “ChatGPT has been partially recovered,” but the chat history is still not loading as the company is still “working on a fix.” There is no mention of an estimated time of arrival when access will be fully restored.
OpenAI did not identify the “upstream provider” associated with the issue, but its exclusive cloud service provider, Microsoft, reported AND “power problem” in one of the data centers this started around the same time as the OpenAI problems and affected North America.

The Xbox status page also reports issues affecting cloud gaming and sign-in. Microsoft said “fully restored” power to the affected data center, while “all affected services have been restored or are in the process of being restored.”
Over the past few months, the price of ChatGPT has dropped several times. Just days after OpenAI made Sora available to ChatGPT subscribers earlier this month, the video generator tool and ChatGPT stopped working for hours. Meanwhile, in June, a widespread failure of AI tools disabled ChatGPT.
