Google Assistant with Gemini support is now available on select Nest speakers

Share

Google has slowly started rolling out the Gemini-powered Google Assistant to some Google Home users on select Nest clever speakers. The company first introduced the smarter Google Assistant for the home in August and is starting with Answers to general knowledge questions powered by Gemini technology. The regular Google Assistant will still handle tasks like clever home and music requests, but you’ll hear a beep before the Assistant responds with an AI-powered response.

As detailed on Google wa new support documentGemini in Google Assistant on Nest speakers (which is a real delight for the brand) can answer broader questions with more detailed answers – just like Gemini on Android and iOS. You can also ask follow-up questions and interrupt your answer to ask another question, although you’ll still have to say “Hey Google” each time.

First Spotted by 9to5Googlethe improved Gemini Assistant began arriving on speakers earlier this month. However, it is only available on Nest Audio and Nest Mini (2nd generation) clever speakers – Nest clever displays and earlier generations of speakers are not compatible. AI-powered responses are also only available to Google Home public preview users, who are also Nest awareness subscribers AND who have consented to experimental AI features. However, this last option is not available to everyone in Preview.

As detailed in this supporting documentIf you choose to exploit Experimental AI features, you’ll receive a notification in your Google Home app inbox. This will allow you to enable the Experimental AI Features button and start testing the Gemini-based Google Assistant.
