ChatGPT Projects are fancy folders for AI chats

Share

OpenAI introduces a feature called “Projects” in ChatGPT. It’s basically a folder system that makes it simple to organize the things you’re working on when using an AI chatbot.

As shown in the demo videothe project list will appear in the sidebar. If you’re creating a up-to-date project, you can, for example, edit the title, set the project icon color, and add files and instructions to customize how ChatGPT responds to elements of your project. You can also add previous chats to your project to keep track of them.

The up-to-date feature seems like a pretty useful way to track, for lack of a better word, your projects. During the demo video, an OpenAI employee showed examples of using projects to plan Secret Santa gift exchanges and home maintenance tasks. Depending on your needs, this may be a better way to work on a project than my usual method of dumping everything that comes to mind into an Apple Note.

Projects are now available to ChatGPT Plus, Pro and Teams users. According to OpenAI CPO Kevin Weil, the solution will be available to free users “as soon as possible” and to Enterprise and Edu users “early in the new year.”
