OpenAI has purchased Chat.com, adding to its collection of famed domain names.
As of this morning, Chat.com now redirects to OpenAI’s AI-powered chatbot, ChatGPT. An OpenAI spokesperson confirmed the acquisition via email.
Chat.com is one of the older domains on the Internet, registered in September 1996. It was registered last year reported that Hubspot co-founder and CTO Dharmesh Shah acquired Chat.com for $15.5 million, making the site one of the two largest publicly reported domain sales in history.
Domain name no to appear has changed ownership since being sold last year, indicating that OpenAI does not support ChatGPT on Chat.com – so this probably does not represent a rebrand.
