HMIS Integration, Other HIS Portals Wanted

India’s Health Secretary Apurva Chandra has called for integration of the country’s healthcare management IT system with other health information systems in the public sector.

He added that this is intended to “reduce the workload of health officials and ensure timely data transmission and accurate analysis.”

The appeal followed the release of this year’s Health Dynamics of India report, a source of information on the workforce and infrastructure under the National Health Mission.


Mumbai University launches AI project targeting PCOS, women’s cancer

The University of Mumbai aims to develop artificial intelligence models for early detection of diseases in women.

It is reported that the university has reached out to hospitals to create a network where it can utilize patient case studies to build AI models. AI, for example, could be used to better understand polycystic ovary syndrome in women in India.

Artificial intelligence models to support the diagnosis of breast and cervical cancer are also being considered.

Apart from hospitals, the University of Mumbai is also looking to partner with other higher education institutions; it recently signed memoranda of understanding with Purdue University and Saint Louis University, and is also considering bringing on board the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, which is currently working on a similar project.


AI course for healthcare workers launched

International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad, one of India’s leading research institutes in the field of AI, recently launched an online course on AI fundamentals for healthcare professionals.

The 12-week course, attended by more than 200 people, aims to equip participants with the skills necessary to understand, evaluate and apply AI technologies in clinical settings. The AI ​​for Medical Professionals course, developed in partnership with the IHub-Data Institute and the National Academy of Medical Sciences, will also offer certification.


Cytecare Hospitals Digitalize Staff Training

Cytecare Hospitals, a private cancer surgery and treatment centre in Bangalore, has partnered with MedLern to digitise training for healthcare staff.

Through this collaboration, Cytecare training protocols offer updated educational materials and digital training processes.

The digital training programme also supported Cytecare’s recent completion of the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers audit, which ensures the highest standards of safety and quality of care in hospitals in India.
