Gemini in Gmail can now assist you polish your drafts

Google is improving its Gemini writing tools in Gmail to assist you polish the drafts you’ve already written. Now, in addition to the other “Help me write” options powered by Gemini, like Formalize and Elaborate, you can tap “Polish” to polish your emails, Google says in a blog post:The company has also added shortcuts that appear in the body of emails on Android and iOS, making it more obvious that there are AI writing tools you can apply.

The tools are available to people who pay for Google One AI Premium accounts or who have paid for the Google Gemini add-on for Workspace. If that’s you, when you open a blank sketch, you’ll see a “Help me write” shortcut that you can tap to get Gemini Sketch text. Once your sketch has 12 or more words — AI-written or not — you should see a up-to-date “Improve my sketch” shortcut appear in gray letters below the words.

Swipe your thumb over the text and you’ll be given the option to refine, formalize, expand, or shorten the text, or you can have Gemini write a completely up-to-date draft. (If the “Refine my draft” shortcut doesn’t appear, tapping the pencil icon will do the same.)
