Because Google is introducing AI reviews for six new countriesis also changing the way generated summaries display citations. Instead of including relevant web pages directly in the AI-generated summary, Google is adding a recent display to the right of the response that shows cited web pages more prominently.

This recent format is rolling out today and will also appear on mobile devices when selecting the site icons that appear in the top right corner of the AI Overview. “We’re using the space on the right to prominently display links to the AI Overview so people can navigate to the content they’re interested in,” says Hema Budaraju, senior director of product management at Google Search. Edge. Google will continue to display standard search results under the AI review.

Google is also experimenting with including links in the AI Overviews text. You can click on the related text to go to the relevant sites, and you can also browse the web pages, which Google will then display in a recent display on the right. So far, Google says early tests have shown “positive” results that have helped drive “traffic to publisher sites.”

Other features Google is rolling out to AI Overviews in Search Lab include the ability to save an AI Overview, which lets you review the summary again while performing the same search. Google will also store saved AI Overviews on your Interest Page.

In addition, Google is adding a button that will allow you to simplify some of the AI reviews, which presented earlier this yearBoth of these features are available as part of the “AI Overviews and more” experiment in Search Labs for US English queries.

Asked what Google is doing to prevent this type of response from appearing in other countries and languages, Budaraju said the company uses “rigorous evaluation processes and extensive bench-marking testing in each market,” adding that “quality and security are built into the design” of AI Overviews.

“I don’t know if there’s one way to do the search and answer all the questions that people have around the world, but we’re committed to actively learning and listening,” Budaraju says.
