On the endless list of possible AI applications, “getting selfie advice from a Kylie Jenner voice clone” seems both totally crazy and completely inevitable. So of course it exists. It’s not a widely available app, at least not yet; it’s an experiment by an artist and programmer Dries the Depoorter.
With access to several APIs from OpenAI and ElevenLabs and a bit of Python knowledge, You too can improve your selfie. The app will take a photo through your webcam, then feed it to ChatGPT with a request for some entertaining advice in Ms. Jenner’s voice. The output will then be sent to ElevenLabs’ selfie maven voice clone, and then the advice will appear:
“Okay, I love the honest vibe, but let’s add a little drama. Turn towards the light, take off your headphones, and think some mysterious thoughts to spice it up, because lighting is everything, baby.”
We spoke with Depoorter about how he creates his work, how he thinks about the future of AI, and how he responds to people who see his art and want to commercialize it. It’s a wild conversation, so check it out above. To see all of Dries’ work, go to his portfolio.
