Sam Altman’s $27 million San Francisco home is apparently plagued with problems, from a leaking infinity pool to faulty pipes that were spewing raw sewage onto the property, or so he claims a lawsuit This San Francisco Standard connected to the residence of the OpenAI CEO, where it is claimed that Altman bought a “dummy” with “widespread botching and skimping on materials.”
The 9,500-square-foot property is located on San Francisco’s renowned Lombard Street, with views of the city and the bay. As you can see in this photo passage through the houseKey features include a four-sided infinity pool that hangs over the edge of the house, a “Batman cave” leading to the garage, and a system that uses reclaimed rainwater to irrigate the extensive garden and flush toilets inside the house.
But the $27 million mansion may not be as good as it seems. In a lawsuit filed last week in San Francisco Superior Court, Altman’s legal team claims that the property’s developer, Troon Pacific, “misrepresented the condition of the Property as being of the highest quality” in order to sell it “as quickly as possible.” The plaintiff also accuses the developer of failing to hire qualified contractors, some of whom allegedly “retaliated” by “filling the drains and sewer lines with contractor’s bags and debris” over claims they weren’t paid on time.
That “poor” work led to the pool leaking “a flood of water” onto the lower level of the home last August, causing “the collapse of the drywall in that area” and “the growth of mold,” according to the lawsuit. Altman’s legal team estimates the cost of repairing the pool would be more than $4 million, not counting “an unconnected sewer line in the bathroom that was pouring raw sewage onto the ground,” “numerous leaking irrigation lines,” “water intrusion into the skylights,” and other issues.
For now, Altman may be stuck dealing with some inconveniences at home while the lawsuit plays out. But she can ask ChatGPT for facilitate with some of the issues — or, even better, for suggestions on how to find a recent place.
