Microsoft’s Designer App Comes to iOS and Android with AI-Enabled Editing and Creation

Microsoft’s AI-powered Designer app coming soon out of view today for both iOS and Android users. Microsoft Designer lets you apply templates to create custom images, stickers, greeting cards, invitations, and more. Designer can also apply AI to edit images and change their style or create image collages.

Originally available online or through Microsoft Edge, Designer has been in preview for almost a year. It’s now generally available to anyone with a personal Microsoft account and as a free app for Windows, iOSAND AndroidThe mobile app lets you create and edit images on the go.

Microsoft Designer includes a standard text prompt for generating images, but there’s also a immense selection of templates you can apply to create things like greeting cards, social media posts, icons, wallpapers, coloring pages, and more. Designer also includes an avatar maker, which is recommended for apply with the mobile version of the app.

You can also apply Designer to edit images with AI, allowing you to restyle existing images or frame them with decorative AI-generated borders. Designer also includes the ability to edit and remove backgrounds, remove people or objects from images, and features like adding text and branding to images.

While Microsoft Designer is currently available as a standalone application, Microsoft also makes Designer available through Copilot in applications such as Word and PowerPoint. Copilot Pro subscribers can create images and designs directly in Word and PowerPoint, and Microsoft will soon add a recent banner image generator for Word documents.

Windows Insider Users will also gain access to Designer in the Photos app in Windows 11 today, with features like object erasing, background removal, auto-cropping, and filters all available right in Photos. Microsoft I tested sending images from Photos to Designer, but now integrates the features with Photos so you don’t have to leave the app. Similar features are coming to Microsoft Edge soon.

Microsoft Designer is coming out of preview with 15 free daily Boosts that you can apply to create or edit AI-powered images and designs. “Boosts are automatically used when you create or edit images or designs both in the Designer app and where Designer is integrated with Microsoft apps.” Sumit Chauhan sayscorporate vice president of Microsoft’s Office product group. “You can upgrade to Copilot Pro to get 100 boosts per day.”
