Apple Intelligence and Better Siri Could Come to iPhones This Spring

Siri is expected to finally get better in spring 2025 when Apple makes its Apple Intelligence AI system available to everyone via the iOS 18.4 update. BloombergMark Gurman in the latest issue Power on newsletter. It’s more specific than Apple — so far, it’s only said that the flagship AI features will be available next year.

Apple regularly distributes fresh features in petite chunks across its operating systems. So it’s possible, for example, that Siri will gain the ability (via Apple Intelligence) to perform actions on your behalf, such as searching for your ID from your 20,000-photo library in Photos and copying your driver’s license number to enter into an online form, but AI-powered emoji generation or writing assistance features may not be ready yet. Gurman doesn’t mention this directly, but it’s worth keeping an eye on.

Which comes first should become clearer as iOS 18 betas begin to include features later this year, with version 18.4 on the way. In the meantime, features like ChatGPT integration, a fresh Siri interface that ditches the aged circle graphic in favor of a pulsating rainbow around the inner bezel of the screen, and deeper product knowledge that will allow Siri to provide you with basic tech support are all expected this fall.

In the future, Apple’s AI plan will apparently include those AirPods with built-in cameras, which have been rumored from time to time, such as last week’s rumor from Supply Chain Analyst Ming-Chi Kuosaying they’ll have infrared sensors and be used in conjunction with the Vision Pro to detect hand gestures and movement. Gurman describes something similar to Ray-Ban’s Meta glasses — for example, AI could process images from them to describe things in your environment or assist you navigate while walking. These fresh AirPods Pro, he writes, could be two generations away.
