Google is making it easier for advertisers to disclose whether political ads contain AI-generated content. update noticed by Land Search EngineGoogle says it will automatically generate disclaimers when advertisers mark election ads as containing “synthetic or digitally altered content.”
Last year, Google began requiring political advertisers to include their own “clear and conspicuous” disclosures in ads that include AI content. But now, Google is simplifying the process by automatically including the disclosures in the ad when advertisers check the “altered or synthetic content” checkbox in their campaign settings.
The disclosure will appear in channels and YouTube Shorts on mobile devices, as well as in-stream ads running on mobile, desktop, TV and web. Advertisers will need to include their own disclosures for all other ad formats.
With the US presidential election just months away, concerns about the operate of AI in political ads have begun to grow. In May, the Senate Rules Committee introduced a bill that would require political advertisers to disclose AI-generated content, while the Federal Communications Commission has proposed a similar policy.
