Apple has reportedly tapped App Store chief and former marketing executive Phil Schiller to serve as the company’s representative on the board of nonprofit OpenAI. report from Bloomberg. Schiller will reportedly be given an observer role, meaning he will be able to attend board meetings but will not be able to vote or serve as a director.
Microsoft also joined OpenAI’s board last year as a nonvoting observer. Having both Apple and Microsoft on OpenAI’s board could make it harder to discuss plans with either company. Bloomberg notes that it is occasional for Apple executives to take positions on the boards of the companies they work with.
